Overview
TIP’s Custom Research Services (CRS) extends
the spectrum of TIP offerings beyond the core in-depth syndicated research
products and Custom Data Views. CRS enables clients to answer their specific
and unique questions through access to the TIP methodology and network
of member organizations. CRS studies use a combination of TIP’s
proprietary survey database and custom-developed data including extensive
user commentary.
What kinds of studies can
CRS do for me?
Determine user responses to specific and focused
topics such as:
• Buying and spending intentions on a specific product model or
version.
• Training needs for a new or upgraded software system.
• Reactions to a new channel program.
A needs analysis survey to:
• Determine product enhancement opportunities or competitor comparisons.
• Measure reactions to a new sales program or product.
• Determine needed tech support improvements.
• Strengths or weaknesses of vendor or competitors.
A customer satisfaction survey:
• Focus on a specific customer factor such as training, product
installation, tech service, sales support, etc.
• A broad satisfaction survey that touches on an extensive set of
customer services.
• Win/Loss determinations related to specific products, sales campaigns
or competing vendors.
What research approach will CRS take for
your study?
CRS will choose the approach that is most appropriate and of least cost
to the client:
• Mini-study – a brief question set that “piggy-backs”
on TIP’s on-going field surveys; the number of custom questions
is small (3 to 5).
• Single topic – addresses one topic in some depth usually
but not always “piggy backing” on TIP in- field studies (<12
questions).
• Multi-topic and in-depth – a stand-alone customized survey
that leverages the TIPNetwork™ of users possibly with client-specified
survey names. The duration of a survey interview would typically not exceed
30 minutes.
In all studies, CRS uses the standard TIP survey methodology capturing
specific data and the narrative commentary garnered from interviews.
What are the CRS deliverables?
A CRS client can request deliverables from a range of possibilities:
• Primary Results – graphic and tabular information associated
with each or a combination of questions; in addition, narrative text comments
associated with each “open question” is delivered.
• Significance Analysis – This includes the Primary Results
charts described above plus per-chart observations about the data and
the significance for the client.
• Presentation and Discussion – Live discussion (usually by
phone) using the Significance Analysis described above to provide further
explanation, observations, interpretation and recommendations for the
client.
• In-person Delivery – A client session for a half to a full
day can be facilitated with presentation by a CRS Research Director to
enable discussion, conclusions and planning.
How TIP’s CRS provides better quality
results at a lower cost?
• TIP is “always in the field” doing interviews, which
provides highly leveraged interviewing expertise. This maximizes the quality
and consistency of the data collected.
• TIP uses “benchmark” questions that enable the results
of custom studies to be compared with our ongoing syndicated research
program. This enables superior contextual analysis, even from small sample
sizes.
Pricing for CRS studies.
Prices are determined based on a matrix formula that considers the chosen
deliverables and factors in the following dimensions:
1. Complexity of the study's focus and objectives – typically ranges
from a few hours to one or two days.
2. Research approach needed – “piggy-backing” on an
in-field study is the least expensive; the extent of “new data”
vs. existing TIP data is a factor.
3. Deliverables selected – this can range from less than a day to
two or three days of effort plus any in-person time and discussion requested.
